What Good Is Solar If It Doesn’t Provide Outage Power?
Acknowledge the disappointment, then separate everyday solar production from the resilience outcome you expected.
If you bought solar expecting protection during outages, discovering that it shuts down can feel like a broken promise. Explaining anti-islanding does not erase that disappointment.
Two different outcomes
A grid-tied solar system can produce useful energy during normal utility operation even though it cannot power the home during an outage. Whether it delivers the financial result expected is a separate evidence question involving production, consumption, billing, rate treatment, financing, and the original assumptions.
Outage resilience asks which loads matter, how much power they require, how long they must run, and what equipment can isolate and control the system safely.
Preserve useful equipment
The absence of outage power does not mean every component should be replaced. It also does not mean adding one product will create the desired result. We determine what the existing system reliably does, what was represented, what can be preserved, and which limitations require correction.
